The weather today could not have been more opposite than the weather at the Maine Half-Marathon. Perfect temperatures and a bright, sunny day. Just warm enough to do the run in short-sleeves, but never hot and never too cold.
Thank you to my wonderful husband for once again getting up super early on a weekend morning to drive me and cheer me on at a race! I was also feeling a bit nervous and Ben made me feel better by saying “what are you nervous about, you can do these in your sleep”. Now, I don’t know about that, but still was encouraging.
Wow, don’t I look SO ready to run 13.1 miles? Not sure what’s up with my arm pose here…
Sadly, I had no Andrea to run with this half-marathon, but I did meet up with several members of my Back on my Feet team that were also running so that was awesome!
I have to say, I felt unexpectedly good during this entire race. I thought it might be a bit of challenge since I hadn’t kept up my running over the past week, but I felt great. As you know, I’m more of a “slow and steady” runner and typically do around a 10 minute mile, but I was pretty excited to note that I ran the first 10k in under an hour.
Ben spotted this adorable husky puppy and I found this mixed in my pictures after the race. Too cute!
Love getting to that final mile! And the finish line…
Super excited to now have three half-marathons done. I was going to take a picture of the medals, but I’m totally not feeling getting up off the couch right now. Me and the couch have had some quality time this afternoon and evening.
You’ll be happy to know I’ve more than replenished my calorie deficit from the race today. IHOP right afterwards, Chinese food for dinner and some Edy’s Pumpkin Ice Cream. Yep, that should do it.
So, remember how I was getting worried over another potential running injury. Maybe I’m speaking too soon, but I think it really was due to my worn out running shoes. I did exactly what you were not supposed to do and ran in my brand new shoes for the half-marathon, but I figured since they were the exact same kind it would be okay. And it was totally fine. Didn’t feel any pain during the run and still no pain even hours afterwards. Awesome.
Even though I think I’m in the clear, I am going to take the rest of the week off from running just to be safe. So here are my thoughts on working out this week:
- Mon – Rest
- Tues – Rest
- Wed – 30 min bike at the gym
- Thurs – 30 min elliptical
- Fri – Strength
- Sat – 30/30 each bike and elliptical
- Sun – Strength & Run 3m
Although I’m surprisingly not sleepy, I think I might get to bed earlier, Ben is watching Walking Dead and it is freaking me out! Have a good night!
