It had been a pretty busy week so I was super excited (and boring, I know) to have some quality time at home. I am such the home body! Is it ridiculous how much I enjoy having time at home and being able to organize? I was just a little too excited about bringing out the winter clothes and going through the summer ones, finally giving up on some for the donation bag. Although I enjoy this process, I wish I was a little better at REALLY getting rid of the clothes I don’t wear. If Ben and I move anywhere in the near future it will most likely be in the city, which means, significantly smaller space, which means no room for my clothes.
Anyway, I am getting off topic. First, I had a nice walk into Harvard Square and finally recognized that there were some leaf changes despite the very quick jump from summer to basically winter (although warm again this week, so weird?). I always love walking through my favorite Agassiz neighborhood.
It was a beautiful day as you can see!
That night I did quite a bit of baking. As soon as I saw the recipe for these Chewy Caramel Apple Chip cookies from Eat, Live, Run, I HAD to make them. I had no choice in the matter, honestly! It was every bit worthy of the enormous blister I got on my hand from chopping each individual caramel. Unfortunately my grocery store did not have the little caramel bits so chopping was necessary.
Maybe you are thinking, oh, those just look like regular normal old cookies. DO NOT BE FOOLED.
Oh no, these are amazingly crazy caramel goodness with just a hint of apple. MAKE THEM!
That night I also attempted (key word here) to make Butternut Squash Gnocchi for dinner. I was originally thinking that I had never made gnocchi before, but then I was reminded how I had tried to before and totally failed. And guess what, this time around, pretty much a fail again. I don’t know what it is that I do every time to mess them up, but I seem to have a mental block against gnocchi. It is most definitely user error, so I say go ahead and make this recipe, I bet yours will come out perfectly!
I tried to make it look pretty at least!
I was pretty full from cookies anyway so probably for the best.
On Sunday, we had a chance to meet up with Ben’s parents (and have a belated birthday celebration with his mom). We all attended the American Lamb Pro-Am.
All of the lamb dishes were delicious and the drinks were awesome. There were four lamb dishes, but somehow I ended up not photographing one of them despite having two servings. I never said photography was my strength, right?
Of course, our favorite chef, Michael Scelfo, of Russell House joined with blogger, Robin Cohen at Doves and Figs won the competition. No surprise here, Russell House is definitely one of our favorite restaurants.
A fun time was had by all and we hope to see this again next year!
Well, I am more than ready for bed due to this whole daylight savings time thing. I’ll have to save the workout recap/plans for tomorrow. But first, one tip of the evening to share, even though you THINK you’ll remember that you’ve placed a frosty mug of your favorite pumpkin beer balancing on the couch cushion, know that YOU WILL NOT REMEMBER and it will spill all over the floor when you get up. Just a tip, hypothetical situation, you know?
